Job description for CFD Engineer at Broadtech Engineering Pte Ltd
CFD Engineering ConsultantBuild the engineering judgement behind the simulation.BroadTech Engineering is a Singapore-based engineering simulation and consultancy firm specialising in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and numerical modelling.
We help engineering companies solve real-world problems involving fluid flow, heat transfer, thermal performance, structural behaviour and design optimisation.
Our work spans electronics, data centres, energy, aerospace, marine, industrial equipment, buildings and other engineering applications.
We are looking for a CFD Engineering Consultant who wants to do more than operate simulation software.
At BroadTech, you will have the opportunity to work on different engineering problems, develop your CFD analysis skills, interact with clients and gradually take ownership of complete engineering projects. What you will do
Depending on your experience, you may be involved in the full CFD engineering cycle:
Understand the client's engineering problem and define the objective of the CFD analysis.
Decide what physics, assumptions and modelling approach are appropriate for the problem.
Prepare geometry and computational domains.
Develop meshes and assess mesh quality and sensitivity.
Set up and run CFD simulations for fluid flow, heat transfer and related physics.
Perform steady-state and transient CFD analysis where appropriate.
Investigate turbulence, pressure drop, flow distribution, temperature, heat transfer and other engineering parameters.
Perform sensitivity studies and engineering checks to understand the reliability and limitations of the model.
Compare simulation results with experimental or operational data where available.
Analyse and interpret CFD results rather than simply producing plots and contours.
Convert simulation findings into practical engineering recommendations.
Prepare clear technical reports, presentations and engineering documentation.
Discuss technical findings and recommendations with clients and project stakeholders.
Work with engineers across CFD, FEA and other engineering disciplines.
Our focus is not simply getting a CFD model to converge.
We want to understand whether the model is appropriate for the engineering question, whether the results make physical sense and what the results actually mean for the client's design or operation.

For an overview of the type of work we undertake, see our CFD consulting services. The engineering problems you may work on
One of the advantages of engineering consultancy is variety.
Depending on the projects we receive, you may work on
Airflow and fluid flow analysis
Thermal CFD and heat transfer simulation
Electronics cooling and thermal management
Data centre airflow and cooling
HVAC and building CFD
Industrial equipment and machinery
Pumps, fans and rotating machinery
Marine and hydrodynamic applications
Aerospace and aerodynamics
Environmental and dispersion modelling
Multiphase flow
Multiphysics and fluid-structure interaction
Design optimisation and performance improvement
This variety means you can encounter engineering problems that would be difficult to experience when working on only one product or industry.
For example, engineers may work on electronics cooling CFD or data center CFD analysis depending on the project pipeline. From simulation software to engineering judgement
We believe a good CFD engineer is more than someone who knows how to operate a solver.
These are the skills that turn CFD simulation into engineering consulting.
Our CFD analysis work therefore involves engineering judgement as well as model preparation, simulation and post-processing.Exposure to FEA and multidisciplinary simulation
Although this position is primarily focused on CFD, BroadTech also undertakes Finite Element Analysis and multidisciplinary engineering simulation.
Depending on your interests and project experience, you may gain exposure to areas such as structural analysis, stress analysis, vibration, thermal-structural problems and fluid-structure interaction.
You can learn more about our FEA consulting and FEA structural analysis capabilities.
This multidisciplinary exposure is useful because real engineering problems do not always fit neatly into one simulation discipline. What we look forEssential
Bachelor's, Master's or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Chemical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
Strong fundamentals in fluid mechanics and heat transfer.
Practical CFD experience through industry, research or significant academic projects.
Understanding of CFD modelling, meshing, solver setup and post-processing.
Ability to investigate an engineering problem rather than simply follow a predefined simulation procedure.
Good written and verbal communication.
Reliable, organised and willing to take ownership of work.
Curiosity and willingness to learn.
Useful experience
Experience in one or more of the following is useful
STAR-CCM+, OpenFOAM or similar CFD software.
Thermal CFD and heat transfer.
Airflow or ventilation simulation.
Electronics cooling or thermal management.
Data centre CFD.
Aerodynamics or hydrodynamics.
Rotating machinery CFD.
Multiphase flow.
Fluid-structure interaction.
FEA or finite element simulation.
Structural or vibration analysis.
Python, MATLAB or engineering automation.
Experimental validation or correlation.
Technical reporting and client presentations.
We are interested in capability and potential, not only the number of years on your CV.
A strong engineer with good fundamentals, curiosity and the ability to learn quickly may be a better fit than someone with more years of experience but little engineering judgement. How we work
BroadTech is a small engineering consultancy, which means engineers work closely with one another.
You will not be one person in a large organisation responsible for only a small part of a simulation.
As you become more capable, you will be expected to take greater ownership.
That may include leading parts of a CFD analysis, communicating directly with clients, reviewing another engineer's work or eventually managing complete projects.
We encourage engineers to ask questions, challenge assumptions and share what they know.
At the same time, we take engineering quality seriously. We expect people to communicate early when something is unclear, take responsibility for their work and help the team solve problems. What you can expect to learn
During your time at BroadTech, we want you to develop beyond software proficiency.
You should progressively become better at
Defining engineering problems.
Selecting appropriate CFD modelling approaches.
Assessing modelling assumptions.
Understanding numerical and physical limitations.
Performing engineering checks and sensitivity studies.
Interpreting simulation results.
Communicating technical conclusions.
Scoping engineering work.
Working directly with clients.
Managing engineering projects.
For thermal and multidisciplinary work, you may also gain exposure to broader thermal analysis services and engineering simulation methods. Why join BroadTech?Variety
Work across different industries and engineering problems rather than repeatedly analysing the same product.Technical growth
Develop both your CFD software capability and the engineering judgement behind simulation.Client exposure
Understand how engineering problems are actually defined, scoped and solved in industry.Ownership
As your capability develops, take increasing responsibility for analysis, projects and client communication.Knowledge sharing
Work closely with engineers who have different technical backgrounds and experience.A practical environment
We are a small team, so your work is visible and your contribution can directly influence how projects are delivered and how the company develops.
We are friendly and practical, but we take engineering quality, reliability and professional responsibility seriously. What success looks like
Our goal is not simply to turn you into someone who can run CFD simulations.
We want you to become an engineer who can
Understand the problem → decide what needs to be modelled → build the analysis → assess whether the results make sense → explain the engineering implications → help the client make a decision.
That is the capability we want to build.About BroadTech Engineering
