About the Role

We are looking for a Confluent Administrator with a strong Kafka background to join our team. You will be a key technical voice in how we design, deploy, and operate our event streaming platform — from recommending the right architecture to supporting the engineering teams that build on top of it. This role sits at the intersection of infrastructure and advisory, meaning you are equally comfortable drawing up a cluster topology as you are sitting with a developer team to work through a Kafka integration problem. We run Confluent Platform as our primary deployment model, and we are looking for someone who knows it deeply — not just in theory, but from real operational experience managing self-managed clusters in production.

Job Description

Recommend and design event streaming platform architectures using Confluent Platform, including full specification and sizing to support high-performing, resilient, and scalable real-time transaction processing workloads

Provide ongoing technical recommendations and hands-on support to engineering teams integrating with and building on top of Kafka, ensuring developed systems are designed and implemented correctly against the platform

Deploy, configure, and maintain Confluent Platform clusters — brokers, ZooKeeper or KRaft, Schema Registry, Kafka Connect, ksqlDB, and Control Center

• Define and enforce standards for topic design, replication factors, retention policies, partition strategies, and schema management
• Monitor cluster health and performance, respond to incidents, and drive continuous improvement of platform reliability and throughput
• Contribute to capacity planning — projecting storage, throughput, and consumer lag tolerance as workloads grow
• Produce and maintain technical documentation including architecture decision records, operational runbooks, and configuration standards

Requirements

• 3–6 years of experience in infrastructure, platform, or systems engineering with meaningful hands-on Kafka experience
• Solid understanding of Kafka architecture — brokers, partitions, replication, consumer groups, offsets, and the producer/consumer model
• Proven, hands-on experience deploying and operating Confluent Platform in a self-managed, production environment
• Familiarity with Confluent components beyond the broker — Schema Registry, Kafka Connect, and Control Center at minimum
• Ability to produce architecture recommendations with clear rationale, covering topology, sizing, and resilience design
• Understanding of Kafka security — TLS, SASL authentication, ACLs or Confluent RBAC
• Comfortable working with infrastructure-as-code tooling and container-based deployments, such as Ansible, Kubernetes, and Terraform
• Strong communication skills — able to explain technical recommendations clearly to both engineering teams and non-technical stakeholders

You have designed or contributed to an event streaming architecture for real-time transaction processing workloads and can speak to the tradeoffs involved

You have advised or directly supported developer teams on Kafka integration — producer configuration, consumer group design, error handling, and schema compatibility

You have hands-on experience with Kafka Connect, including deploying and operating source and sink connectors in production

You are familiar with multi-datacenter or multi-region Confluent Platform deployments — Cluster Linking (unidirectional or bidirectional), MirrorMaker 2, or Confluent Replicator

• You have exposure to Confluent Cloud and understand how it differs operationally from a self-managed Confluent Platform deployment
• You hold or are working toward Confluent certification (CCAAK or equivalent)
