Mechanical Engineer (Design & Construction)
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in the planning, design, and delivery of mechanical engineering systems for
- greenfield and brownfield data center projects, ensuring compliance with project
- requirements, industry standards, and operational performance objectives.
- Coordinate and support the design, review, and implementation of mechanical
- systems, including HVAC, fire protection, plumbing, drainage, and other critical
- mechanical infrastructure for mission-critical facilities.
- Act as the Mechanical Engineering Lead for assigned projects, coordinating
- multidisciplinary engineering activities to ensure project deliverables are completed
- within scope, budget, schedule, and quality requirements.
- Prepare and review engineering calculations, design reports, technical specifications,
- drawings, and equipment schedules for mechanical systems.
- Develop and review technical specifications for major mechanical equipment,
- including chillers, cooling towers, CRAH/CRAC units, air handling units (AHUs),
- pumps, heat exchangers, piping systems, and ventilation equipment.
- Perform engineering analysis of mechanical system performance and recommend
- improvements to optimize energy efficiency, reliability, maintainability, and Power
- Usage Effectiveness (PUE).
- Review engineering designs and technical submissions from consultants and
- contractors to ensure compliance with applicable codes, client requirements, and
- company engineering standards.
- Support the development and continuous improvement of mechanical engineering
- standards, design guidelines, standard details, and technical specifications.
- Provide technical support throughout construction, including reviewing Requests for
- Information (RFIs), shop drawings, material submittals, method statements, and
- resolving site-related engineering issues.
- Participate in factory acceptance tests (FAT), site inspections, testing and
- commissioning (T&C), integrated system testing (IST), and project handover activities
- as required.
- Coordinate closely with electrical, civil, structural, architectural, commissioning,
- operations, and project management teams to ensure successful project execution.
- Support cost estimation, value engineering, and constructability reviews to achieve
- the optimum balance between cost, quality, maintainability, and operational
- reliability.
- Monitor assigned engineering activities to ensure deliverables are completed in
- accordance with approved project schedules, budgets, and quality objectives.
- Liaise with consultants, contractors, clients, utility providers, and relevant
- government authorities to facilitate technical reviews, statutory approvals, and
- project implementation.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers while promoting
- engineering best practices and knowledge sharing within the team.
- Ensure compliance with applicable engineering codes, local regulations,
- environmental requirements, health and safety standards, and company quality
- management systems.
- Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related Engineering discipline.
- Minimum 7 years of experience in mechanical engineering design, construction,
- or commissioning, preferably within data center and mission-critical facilities.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems for data centers, including HVAC,
- chilled water systems, direct expansion (DX) systems, ventilation, fire protection,
- plumbing, drainage, and water treatment systems.
- Experience supporting testing and commissioning activities, including
- Functional Performance Testing (FPT), Integrated System Testing (IST), and
- system handover.
