About the role
- We are seeking a skilled and passionate
- Coffee Roaster
- to join PT Surya Tanjung Jaya in Batam, Riau Islands. This is a
- full-time position
that plays a crucial role in our hospitality and beverage operations. As a Coffee Roaster, you will be responsible for roasting, blending, and perfecting coffee beans to create exceptional products that define our brand's quality and reputation. This position is central to our commitment to delivering premium coffee experiences to our guests and ensuring consistency across all our beverage offerings.
Key responsibilities
Roasting coffee beans to precise specifications using roasting equipment, adjusting temperature and timing to achieve desired flavour profiles
- Developing and maintaining roasting profiles for various coffee bean origins and blends to ensure consistency and quality
- Monitoring roasting processes to ensure optimal colour, aroma, and flavour development, and making real-time adjustments as needed
- Cupping and tasting coffee samples to evaluate roast quality and provide feedback for continuous improvement
- Maintaining and cleaning roasting equipment to ensure proper functioning and food safety standards
- Recording roasting data and keeping detailed logs of batch information, temperatures, and outcomes
- Collaborating with the beverage team to ensure roasted coffee meets operational and quality standards
- Managing coffee bean inventory and communicating stock levels to management
- Adhering to all health, safety, and hygiene regulations within the roasting facility
- What we're looking for
- Proven experience as a Coffee Roaster or in a similar coffee production role within the hospitality or food and beverage industry
- Strong knowledge of coffee bean origins, processing methods, and their impact on flavour profiles
- Proficiency in operating commercial coffee roasting equipment and machinery
- Understanding of coffee cupping techniques and sensory evaluation practices
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to maintain consistency in product quality
- Physical capability to perform manual tasks, including lifting and handling sacks of coffee beans
- Strong organisational and record-keeping skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
- Knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards
- Passion for coffee and a commitment to excellence in craft
- Preferred: Certification in coffee roasting or formal training from recognised coffee institutions
